Frequently Asked Questions About Massage

Q. How should I prepare for my massage

A. Please avoid applying fragrance or perfumed body lotions on the day of your treatment - they may react with the essential oils if are having an Aromatherapy massage

Ladies please don’t worry about body hair, there is no need to shave legs before a massage.  If you have long hair please bring a hairband.

Q What happens during my treatment

A. During Your treatment You can expect light to firm pressure during your massage, but ‘no pain no gain’ does not really apply here. Instead, we are aiming to move gradually through warm, relaxed fascia and muscles, for happy endorphins, and more radiant nourished skin.

I know it’s not easy to be assertive when you are having a massage, but please remember that everyone has different comfort thresholds, so it’s not always possible to pick up on what you are thinking or feeling. The pressure, towel draping, room temperature, music volume and lighting are all there to make you comfortable, so please don’t be shy to speak up if adjustments are needed. If you need a lighter or firmer pressure please tell me.

If you like quiet during your treatment that’s great and recommended. Your ‘ME’ time is for you to relax and switch off if that’s what is best for you then that’s what we will do, whatever works for you. Silence can be golden or if you want to chat that’s great too

Q. What will be the best massage for me …Swedish, Aromatherapy, Lava shell, Deep tissue work or a combination ..?

A. Don’t worry as we will spend time at your consultation to decide what’s the best way forward with your treatment and will also have the opportunity to discuss on a familiarisation call

Q. Is your treatment room on a ground floor or upper level.?

A. The treatment room is upstairs with 12 steps to go up, so maybe a consideration to take into account.

Q. How do I pay?

A. Cash, cheques and BACS payments. Gift vouchers are also available

Q. What should I wear for my massage

A. Keep it simple - wear soft, comfortable clothing and avoid control underwear with tight waistbands as it will limit massage to your lower back! Massage oils are by nature oily and essential oils can leave some residue on clothing until they are washed., therefore it’s advisable not to wear your best clothing. Comfort and ease are always best for dressing post massage.

Q. What should I do after my treatment

A. Stay hydrated. Drink water or herbal tea such as chamomile or peppermint. Avoid alcohol, and caffeine.

You might feel sleepy or need some time alone. It’s normal, so go with the flow!

You may feel a bit achy afterwards - especially if you have not had a massage in a long time, or needed deeper work. This should clear within 48 hours. A warm bath or shower can work wonders.

Gentle exercise - yoga, a gentle walk or some stretching are great ways to get your body moving

Light exercise is fine.

Listen to your body and do what feels right for you. If rest and relaxation appeal. Then do just that … but no marathons..

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or feedback about your treatment.

Q. Do you have a bathroom?

A. Yes bathroom facilities are available

Q. When should I arrive for my appointment

A. Please arrive as near to your booked time as possible. This allows me to reset the room for your appointment following my previous client. If you are early I may still be setting up or even with a client and unable to let you into the building. I work alone and therefore would be unable to break away to answer the door.

Q. How long have you been trained.

A. I initially started training in 2002 and have since been adding to my professional development. I believe we never stop learning. I love my profession and body work is a passion for me. I am continuously learning new skills.

(I offer a complimentary familiarisation call which is a great opportunity to chat through some of your queries and find out a little more and what time scale we might need.)
